Repeat prescriptions – FAQs

Unused medications

We follow new national guidelines to stop wastage of unused medications, and so only provide a 28 day supply of medication in each prescription.

Review date for your medication

Remember to check the review date at the bottom of your repeat medication list. If this date has expired, you will need an appointment with your doctor before any further medication can be issued.

Emergency prescription requests

The only emergency requests to be considered are those for medications which you would need within 24 hours to stop you becoming severely unwell. Emergency medications include; epileptic medication, insulin, inhalers for lung conditions and adrenaline auto-injectors for anaphylaxis.

Emergency prescription requests are not requests for medication that has been ordered late. You should allow 48 hours for all routine repeat prescription requests. Please respect our staff, as it is your responsibility to make sure any repeat prescriptions are ordered in plenty of time.
